Sorry for the later than usual listing, I have been caught up with exams and personal circumstances, as I’m sure everyone has been 🙂
Changing up the picture theme this week. The picture here is of Gobekli Tepe, an ancient site that was found in Turkey. It is said to be the oldest temple in the world, dated as at least 12,000 years old via carbon dating. If you’re thinking stone can’t be carbon you would be correct. However, the site was purposefully buried by the inhabitants at the time (and possibly not even the original inhabitants), and organic material found at the level of the site was dated to this age. Why was it buried? Possibly because it was considered so sacred! This is quite interesting since it predates the Sphynx and Pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge considerably. This indicates that sophisticated culture and religion existed much earlier than what established theories at the time suggested (this all unfolded in the 90s). Expectantly, it created huge shock waves in relevant fields such as history and archaeology. I have been quite interested in ancient civilizations and the origins of humanity recently, and thought others might appreciate this also. Just some food for thought really, hope you enjoyed!
